Tim Steward

About

Born in 1975, Tim Steward is a British artist specialising in drawing and painting in situ, engaging directly with his environment. Steward studied Classical Drawing and Painting at Lavender Hill Studios (now London Fine Art Studios) in London. He divides his time between Oxford and Cornwall.

His manner of working tends to involve immersing himself in a subject, where through repetitive study he will see and feel things differently over time and record this evolving process. His approach is as such often experimental and the notion of risk is implicit in his work. The stripped-back nature of his working methods point to a desire to feel the subject intensely. Applying medium with his hands, throwing pigment onto paper, and applying found materials are part of a bold and spontaneous approach.

His practice draws inspiration from the enduring grandeur of classical architecture and the raw, elemental beauty of Cornwall’s wild landscapes.

  • Tim exhibited his work around England through Whitehall Galleries and Clarendon Fine Art for many years.
